DIRECTIONS FROM THE SOUTH / ALBANY AREA
- through Saratoga and Schuylerville -
Take the Northway (I-87) to Exit 14 and follow the signs for Rte 29 to Schuylerville. Traveling west from the Northway (toward Saratoga), drive about ½ mile and take your first Right turn. You’ll now be on Henning Road.
Drive for about one mile (past BOCES school on your right) to Lake Avenue. Turn right at this light on to Lake Avenue (Rte 29).
Take Route 29 east out of Saratoga. On the edge of town you’ll drive under the I-87 overpass to a traffic light where you’ll see a Stewart’s Store on your right. From this light continue for 8½ miles to Schuylerville.
At a T in the road (Cumberland Farms store on the right) turn left onto Rte 4. Drive 1.9 miles to where Route 4 bears right, taking you across a green truss bridge toward Hudson Falls and Ft. Edward. Cross this bridge continuing north.
Immediately after crossing the green bridge, turn left (just before a small red commercial building) onto River Road (dirt road).
Drive about 1½ miles, hugging the shores of the Hudson River. The Hudson River is a flyway for Canadian geese and you'll pass through the Denton Bird Sanctuary too, so watch for the heron and the geese ... and if you’re lucky you may spot an American Eagle!
Just after the abandoned red barn on your right you'll see the "old red house on the river." Bassett House is a red center-chimney cape on your right with a red garage behind the circular driveway. You’ll see the Barn at Bassett House on your left on Bassett's Cove.
NOTE - In inclement weather you can avoid the dirt road access along the river - instead continue on Rte 4 north of the bridge for 1½ miles. Take your first left turn, Ft Miller Rd, and drive 500 feet to a T in the road (you are now facing the river). Turn left onto River Road. Drive 500 feet to Bassett House, the first house on your left. Our red barn is across the road on your right.
